Green·wich 'Mean Time nGreenwicher [o westeuropäische] Zeit¿ Kultur?Das Royal Observatory - Sternwarte in Greenwich wurde 1675 erbaut, um genaue Angaben über Positionen der Sterne für die Erstellung von Schifffahrtskarten zu erhalten. Der Greenwich meridian wurde aber erst 1884 für die ganze Welt als Längengrad 0° offiziell festgelegt. Die Zeit in den 24 Weltzeitzonen wird deshalb jetzt auf der Basis der Zeit in Greenwich berechnet, die als Greenwich Mean Time ( GMT) oder Universal Time allgemein bekannt ist. -
